Team Philosophy

BPR Swim Team focus is to develop swim athlethes by stressing quality instruction before quantity. Team practices/ workouts will be managed efficiently and stuctured to the ability of the swimmer. 

BPR Swim Team

(1)  B.P.R. is composed of swimmers from all of the neighborhood teams who have a working knowledge of competitive strokes and are ready for higher level of competition. Capable swimmers may join the B.P.R. team without having prior affiliation on a neighborhood team at the discretion of the swim team supervisor.

(2) The B.P.R. team may compete in Jefferson County Swim Council (JCSC) Alabama Recreation & Parks Society (ARPS) swim meets and United States of America Swimming (USA) swim meets.

(3) Swimmers are required to pay (JCSC) and (USA) membership fees. Swimmers are responsible for invitational and championship meet entry fees.

(4) No swimmer may enter any competion representing the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board Swim Team without a B.P.R. coach in attendance.

(5) All swimmers who participate in B.P.R. Swim Team competition, must file a Parental Waiver/Permission form prior to his/her participation.

(6) All B.P.R. swimmers will acknowledge an affiliation to their neighborhood team prior to the first swim meet. B.P.R. swimmers must attend neighborhood swim practice on a regular basis.

 

District and State Teams

(1) The swimmers who will represent Birmingham in the ARPS District meet will be chosen from both the neighborhood teams and the B.P.R.team.

(2) Swimmers are responsible for meet entry fees and State Meet expenses.

(3) All swimmers who participate in District and State competition must file or have previously filed a Parental Waiver/Permission form.

(4) Full time Park and Recreation Certified Professional must attend District and State meets and will be in charge of the team. No one else may make protest or grievances to meet officials.

 

Birmingham Park & Recreation Swim Team Rules

  1. Swimmers must obey the coach or adult in charge.
  2. Profanity, improper behavior, and vulgar remarks are prohibited.
  3. No horse playing.
  4.  All BPR Swimmers will acknowledge an affiliation toA neighborhood team: prior to the first swim meet. BPR Swimmers must attend neighborhood swim practice on a regular basis. 
  5. Only swimmers & Park Board employees are allowed on deck during practice.
  6. Only swimmers, certified officials, and workers are allowed on deck during a swim meet.

Swim Meet Rules
  1. Swimmers must be on time for warm-ups. 
  2. Swimmers must stay together in the area designated by the coaches!
  3. Swimmers, families and friends are not to roam in buildings playgrounds etc. You must stay in designated area. Failure to do so could jeopardize our team.

How can a swimmer get a scholarship? QUALIFICATIONS ·      
Swimmer must have qualifying times for his or her age group.  Swimmer must take ACT, and must have a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.       Swimmer must write a letter of interest to the school(s) of his or her choice.
Swimmers must notify his or her high school counselor of his or her interest in a school so the counselor can send the swimmers transcript and other materials to the school of his or her choice.
